BPO to be set up at Hyderabad's Cherlapalli Prison

Hyderabad,May 24: Authorities at the Cherlapalli Prison in Hyderabad have asked some of the inmates to work in a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) unit within the prison complex.A Bangalore-based technical firm called Radiant Info Systems Ltd. is setting up the BPO centre."We have made plans to set up a rural BPO centre. So, I asked the authorities ''Can we set up a rural BPO centre in the prison?'' They got excited and asked officials to accompany me," said Narayana Charyullu, Director, Radiant Infosystems Ltd."I visited the jail and spent five-six hours there. I was surprised to see a computer lab already set up there, and they are imparting training to many prisoners," he added.The eligibility criteria for working in the BPO are education up till 10th standard and above and computer literacy."We found that large number of convicts are willing to work on computers. So, I thought these prisoners can made use of and they can be put on computer-based jobs," said Gopinath Reddy, Director General For Prisons, Andhra Pradesh."The BPO would be a non-voice unit as of now, and would work with data processing and transmission," he added.

ITU World Telecom Development Conference opens in city

Hyderabad,May 24: Union Communications and Information Technology Minister A Raja today said Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) lead to equal opportunities for all mankind, especially perceptible improvement for the most vulnerable parts of society in rural and remote areas, contributing to the inclusive growth of society.Addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the ITU World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-10) here, he said ICTs could facilitate faster development of various social and economic sectors in any country. The Minister said India's impressive growth in the field of software development and in the applications of space technology which were aimed at ''national development in areas like communication, broadcasting, distance education, earth exploration services, and space sciences''.''It is our cherished hope that increased general awareness among the masses created by the knowledge society would bring enhanced global peace, justice and respect for each other, which are the cornerstones for the elimination of disparity and poverty worldwide,'' he added.Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India Secretary P J Thomas was elected Chairman of the Conference.In his opening remarks, Mr Thomas said, ''The world now acknowledges that technological progress and innovations are long term drivers of economic growth, especially in developing countries. As a key technology producer, ICT has contributed to a positive macroeconomic impact in GDP growth besides providing spillovers and externalities which are bringing enormous benefits for the economy.''New services generated by ICT in the forms of e-commerce, e-finance, and e-governance are contributing towards greater economic efficiency while raising the living standard of citizens,'' he said.

Isolated rain lash several parts of AP

Hyderabad, May 24 : Isolated rain occurred over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema even as maximum temperatures significantly rose at one or two places over the state.Nandyal, Sompeta and Veeraghattam recorded rainfall of one cm each, Met Department said today.The maximum temperatures were significantly above normal at one or two places over Telangana and normal over Rayalaseema but significantly below normal at one or two places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh. The highest maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius was recorded at Nizamabad.Isolated rain/thundershowers may occur over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema. A spell of rain/thundershowers may occur in parts of city towards evening/night. Maximum and Minimum temperatures would be around 41 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.
